About Korona POS

Korona POS is a retail point of sale company serving businesses like liquor stores, vape shops, convenience stores, and multi-location retailers. Their marketing team had been running SEO internally for a couple of years and had seen decent growth, but without the technical depth they knew they needed.

Challenge

Through most of 2023, Korona POS had grown organic traffic to around 45,000 monthly visitors by running SEO internally. Then Google rolled out a string of updates in the fall, and traffic dropped to under 35,000. Leads dropped with it.The core problem: their SEO had no structure. They were targeting keywords they had no business going after, the content was spread across unrelated topics, and there was no topical focus. When the algorithm shifted, they had no way to diagnose what broke or how to fix it.Michael Chalberg, who runs marketing at Korona POS, started looking for outside help in November 2023.

How They Found Scalerrs

Michael talked to a few agencies. What sold him on Scalerrs was the personal approach. He'd be working directly with the same people he spoke to during the sales process, not getting passed off to a team he'd never met. He'd been burned by that with other agencies before and didn't want a repeat.

Scalerrs came on board in December 2023.

Strategy

We dived into Korona's ICP and mapped out their highest-intent keywords. From that, we built a combined SEO and AI search strategy. On the SEO side, the goal was to cover as much ground as possible on Google. There is still significant Google visibility to be gained in the POS category, and Korona wasn't capturing it. On the AI search side, we optimized for the same category terms because LLMs pull from content sources ranking for those terms. Win on Google, and you feed AI search at the same time.

SEO

The first step was an audit. Korona POS had a large content library, but it lacked structure. We mapped everything into a plan, identified 50+ golden keywords, and tied each one to a specific product page: retail POS system, liquor store POS, vape shop POS, franchise POS, convenience store POS, and others.

Two phases of execution:

  • Cleanup: Went through existing content page by page. Cut what didn't serve a purpose, rebuilt what had potential, and made everything sharper and more focused on Korona's actual buyer.
  • Build: Created new content mapped to topical clusters around the golden keywords.

Korona POS now ranks #1 for non-branded terms like "vape shop POS," "credit card fee calculator," and "pos system troubleshooting," and #2 for "best liquor store POS." These aren't branded searches. These are buyers actively looking for a solution.

AEO / AI Search

On the AI search side, we optimized for the same category terms we were targeting on Google. LLMs pull from content sources that rank for those terms, so as we built and powered up content around Korona's golden keywords, those pages became the sources AI models referenced when answering buyer prompts about the POS category.

The content we created was structured specifically to send the right signals to AI: what Korona does, which verticals it serves, how it compares to alternatives, and where it wins. AI scrapes this content, so the way it's written directly shapes how the brand shows up in AI-generated answers.

The result: for "best retail store POS," Google's AI Overview now cites Korona POS for high-volume, multi-location retailers alongside Square, Shopify POS, and Lightspeed. For "best liquor store POS," Korona's content surfaces directly in AI search results. Their YouTube videos also rank in Google's video carousel for these terms, adding another source that LLMs reference when generating answers.

Link Building

We used backlinks to power up Korona's most important pages and get them to perform better in search. In a space where Square, Clover, Lightspeed, and Toast all have bigger budgets and longer domain histories, link authority is what closes the gap.We placed links from relevant, high-authority domains with targeted anchor text pointing to Korona's product pages. Examples: "liquor store POS" from Capsule, "retail POS system" from BrandCrowd. This gave those pages more visibility on Google, and more coverage from AI, because AI models scrape those same pages when answering buyer prompts.

Reddit

We took an omni-channel approach with Reddit, targeting threads ranking for Korona's core category terms and getting the brand placed naturally into those conversations. Using accounts belonging to the team, we joined discussions happening in their vertical and provided value within the context of each thread.This serves two strategic purposes. First, Google visibility: Reddit threads rank on Google for high-intent terms. For "best liquor store POS," a thread recommending Korona POS sits at #3 on Google, directly below their own listing at #2. Second, AI search coverage: LLMs pull from Reddit threads when generating answers, so every relevant mention of the brand in these threads feeds directly into AI visibility.

Results

Korona POS now ranks #2 in AI search brand visibility across the retail POS category with 4,001 mentions across LLMs, up from 532 previously. That puts them ahead of most of their competitors.

In 4 months:

  • Traffic surpassed pre-update highs (from 45K pre-update to ~50K+, after dropping to under 35K)
  • Ranking #1 for multiple non-branded keywords, including vape shop POS, credit card fee calculator, and pos system troubleshooting
